Important Islands of Adventure Trip Announcements

Dear Parents,
A few reminders for Saturday’s Rewards Trip:
-Wear comfortable clothes, shoes, and sunscreen
-Students wearing inappropriate clothing (determined by Ms. Wilcox and Ms. Kinion) will be asked to change.
- Students should be in band room by 7:00 am.
- Children must wait in band room while parents receive instructions in chorus room.
-There will be lists posted in the band room with parents names and their groups. This list will also tell you the bus you are riding so don’t forget to check.
- Students may bring electronics; however, they are responsible for what they bring, and anything of value is at risk.
-Everything you take must be carried around the entire day. The busses will not be staying at the park so we have to take everything with us.
- While on the trip students must stay with chaperones at all times.
- Don’t forget money. Bring more money then you think, food is not as cheap as McDonalds, it is expensive.
-We will be staying for lunch and close to dinner time so they may want to eat a snack before we leave.
- If students wear a one piece bathing suit, they must wear shorts. If they wear a two piece bathing suit, they must wear shorts and a shirt. No white t-shirts.
-This is a water park, so be prepared.
- It is advised to bring a plastic bag for electronic devises, such as cell phones, and also for holding money.
-Also, be aware that people at the park will take anything as soon as you leave it alone.

*Please send Ms. Kinion or Ms. Wilcox your cell phone number so we can make a master list of contacts for Saturday.

Dear Parents and Students,
We have several upcoming events that will highlight our wonderful band program through the school year. *Please note that some of the dates/times have changed*
*Thursday May 10: Honor Band Rehearsal – All Honor Band members must attend, 4-5:30pm
*Monday, May 14: Dress Rehearsal – All band members, 4-6pm **Please note time change**
*Tuesday, May 15: Spring Concert, 7pm (Report time 6:15), SMS Gym
*Wednesday, May 16: SHS placement Auditions. This is for all 8th grade band members interested in being in the SHS band. Ms. Newhouse will be in 5th period to hear students play an excerpt (solo or band music), scales and chromatic scale. Students who do not have 5th period band should see Ms. Kinion for a pass.

*Saturday, May 19: IOA Rewards Trip with Chorus
*Tuesday, May 22: Band Awards Ceremony, 7pm, SMS Gym **Please note date change**
**Please send pictures of band events to Ms. Kinion from the year by May 20th so we may show them at the awards ceremony.*
If you have school instruments for home practice (not in-class use), please send them in now so we can start our inventory.

Important Announcements Concerning this Friday

*Our stage performance will take place at 3:30pm at the Lake Mary HS Auditorium

*Following our stage performance, students will go to a separate room for Sight Reading. No parents will be admitted at this time. Thank you for understanding.

*After sight reading, the band will have a brief meeting in the cafeteria.

*If you have indicated you will be picking up your child from LMHS: Find the designated chaperone in cafeteria or front of school (will have a badge on). You must SIGN YOUR NAME next to your child to check him/her out. Students will not be allowed to leave without your signature!

*If you are unable to pick your child up by 4:30pm, your child will be coming back on the bus with us and you may pick him/her up from SMS at approx 4:45. Please plan accordingly.

*If you are picking your child up at SMS, please do so by 5:15pm.

The Symphonic Band rehearsal has been cancelled for this week. We will have our first after school rehearsal, March 28th from 3-5pm.

Jazz Band Performance March 29th

News Flash!

The GEMS PTSA is very happy to have us perform for the ArtsFest in a couple weeks. The following are important changes concerning the March 29th performance:

We will be taking a bus to Goldsboro Elementary for the March 29th performance. The bus will leave promptly at 5:25pm. Please make sure students are at SMS no later than 5:00pm to receive their uniform and load the buses. The performance will take place from 6-7pm. The event will take place from 6-7:30pm. Students are welcome to refreshments and to walk around and view the ArtsFest after the performance.

Parents: Please pick your child up before 7:30pm from Goldsboro Elementary School. Please come to the main part of the school. The school is located down the street from SMS off 18th street. If you are staying for the performance, please park in the front of the school. The back of the school will be for equipment drop off only.

We will still need help getting our equipment to and from the event. If you have signed up to help move equipment, please meet us at SMS at 5:00pm in the back of the band room.

Uniform: All bands should wear blue jeans, band polo and black shoes.
