Students who already play a traditional band instrument are eligible to take a placement audition. This audition is just a way for the band director, Ms. Kinion, to place you at the appropriate level. Please prepare the following for the audition:

1.      Scales: Demonstrate your knowledge of any scales you have learned. You may choose to include the arpeggio.

2.      Prepared Piece: Demonstrate your knowledge of the fundamentals of music. You will be rated in the following areas:

a.       Rhythm – accuracy of values, duration, pulse, steadiness, meter

b.      Tone Quality – resonance, control, clarity, focus, consistency, warmth, breathing and support

c.       Notes – accuracy of printed pitches within the appropriate range

d.      Articulation – accuracy and fluency of attacks and releases

e.       Musicianship/Preparation – expressive elements, interpretation, dynamic, demonstration of practice effort, including memorization (if applicable)

3.      Sight Reading: You will be given 30 seconds to look over the provided music before performing it. To prepare at home, practice looking over and playing music you have never played.

**Remember that this is just a demonstration of what you know.

The following days are reserved for auditions: Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:00-5:30pm. Other days and times may be available upon request. To schedule an audition, please contact Ms. Kinion.
